1. Happy Birthday Kabby!

2. Da Bears finish the spring with a 9-7 record
• This is amazing
• This above 500 record was done all or mostly without the services of Wagnon, Wallis, Jeffrey, Dave, Jeffe, Poochie, James, Colby, Neven, or Teddy
• Despite all of the injuries and departures from the team – Da Bears actually tied for 1st in the E league.
• This E league team saw the following human bears bat cleanup this season: Kabby, Jake, and Matt$ (and a 1 armed Jeffrey)
• And Julie hit 5th the majority of the season – she is better than you.
• So is Ashley (who also made the best defensive play of the year so far)
• So is Caroline
• My guess is that as a team, da bears didn’t hit over 10 balls past that white line in the outfield that landed for hit all season
• STATS AND AWARDS WILL BE UP SOON

3. Next season starts June 4th
• We are signing up 3 teams: Church League, REC League, and Co-Ed
• A few people have paid, but I really need to collect from everyone else as soon as possible
• I’ll post who owes me and how much later today
• I’ll also send out 70 emails and texts – please at the very least, just respond and let me know when you plan on paying
4. Off Season Sports!
• Tennis – Feel free to join me and Clint tomorrow night at Cliff Nelson Rec Center – 5:30pm
• We also plan on playing this weekend so let me know when you can play and I’ll be there
• Softball practice? Yes – we are going to attempt to practice since we have some people that are playing this summer and haven’t played in a while
• Please let me know when you are available to practice. My initial thoughts are: (1) Monday night, 5-21 at Harold Patterson at 6:30 and (2) Saturday, May 26 at Harold Patterson at 10am and (3) Saturday, June 2nd at Harold Patterson at 10am. I’ll do any of these dates – I would prefer to just do the Saturday practices but let me know what works best for you.

5. Da Bears are going to support the Softball Czar and participate in a tournament at the beginning of the summer… This one will benefit Eddie Buentello’s family – Eddie was the service manager at Vandergriff Honda and played against da bears several times and umpired our games even more. This is a cause that The Softball Czar is really looking for some help from Da Bears Nation on… Eddie was a good guy – only 41 years old and left behind a young family after a 9 month battle with stomach cancer. Stay tuned for more information on this.

One more week… again. This time, just one church league game to finish out the spring season. Here is who I know is in for this game – anyone else is welcome to join us as well so just let me know if you want in:

Question: do I have to turn in my Republican card if I’m not up in arms about homosexuals having the same rights as heterosexuals? Maybe we should all just listen to Jesus – Jesus’ thoughts on “the gays”.

IF YOU ARE PLAYING THIS SUMMER – YOU MUST BRING YOUR MONEY TO ME OR AT LEAST LET ME KNOW WHEN I CAN EXPECT IT BEFORE YOU TAKE THE FIELD ON MONDAY.

We’ll be back to playing regular tennis again on weekends – starting this weekend so let me know if you are interested.

We did a tournament in January (won by Clint) and we’re looking to do another one in May. So – come out and play for a few weekends and then we’ll do a tournament towards the end of the month.

Stats for the tennis are not current, but I will update those soon also…

7. It is clear that Joe Nathan was trying to pass Jimmy as the best closer in Arlington. Good try with the 1 pitch DP to close out the game, but let’s see him strike out 2 batters on 2 pitches to close out a victory.

9. Da Bears are possibly the greatest collection of misfit friends around. You know who you are. We even have great friends a few states away that are always looking out for us. Thanks.

It surprised me to find out that people still look at this site, so in addition to updating the stats – here are the rosters for next weeks games. This process is pretty interesting… If everyone actually plays, we would have 13-14 people at every game. Then as the weekend goes by and people start bailing out, this number normally gets down to 10 or 11 by 6pm on Monday. This past week was rare that the number actually got down to 7 or 8…

Also – I need to start planning ahead for the summer. We will have 3 teams: DaBears REC, DaBears COMP, and the co-ed Castrated Ostriches. I’ll be sending out emails letting you know how much you owe – please bring me this money as soon as possible.

Here are you up to the minute stats:

Highlights from a crazy day for Da Bears Softball Club:

• 42 people were set to play when the day started

• Jimmy isn’t very organized these days as Scooter was left off the list of people who were able to play

• Sorry Scooter

• Colby, Matt$, Josh, Kabby, Jeffrey, Pat, Julie, Dave, Wagnon, and Worm all were requested to play but had excused absences

• Katrina Mike and Howie just didn’t show up

• Da Bears probably could have won with 6 players

• There should be a F League

• Caroline, Bo, and Jerry were pressed into action

• Jerry pitched and struck out the first batter he faced

• Some guy named Cody will never play with us again because it is funnier this way – he struck out in his only at bat ever with Da Bears (and right before he did, Jimmy and Scott openly hoped that he would). No offense. I’m sure he’s a very nice guy.

• Caroline went 2 for 2 with 2 walks

• One of Caroine’s hits was a line drive shot to left in the same inning her father recorded 2 outs

• Caroline also started a rare dabears-triple-assist play (Caroline-Nick-Jimmy to Bo for the PO at home) and caught the last out of the game

I will be getting more organized in the next few days, and I have also invited a few other people to be contributors to the web page so maybe it won’t suck as much as it does now…
